About Dr. Roth
Dr. Roth received his orthodontic training from Dr. Jarabak at Loyola University School of Dentistry in Chicago. The cases he displayed at an orthodontic society meeting when he was an assistant to Dr. Jarabak were highly commended, but Dr. Roth himself was bothered by the post-treatment facial declines he saw in these cases. He was rather perplexed by many compliments he received from experienced orthodontists. The teeth were well aligned according to the standards at the time, but the results were far from being functional. Something was not right, he thought. Thus Dr. Roth set off on a journey to revolutionize the world of fixed appliance orthodontics with a history of 100 years.
If we are to perform orthodontic treatment, we would want to achieve functional and facial improvements on top of dental esthetics. We would want the results to remain stable for years and years, instead of being the best only at appliance removal. Dr. Roth embarked on a process of bringing fundamental changes to the field of orthodontics, rather than mere technique changes, by introducing the Roth philosophy. He incorporated the necessary element of jaw function into the conventional form-oriented orthodontics. He is the best of the best clinicians of all time.
